Junya Watanabe

Junya Watanabe, born in 1961 in Fukushima, Japan, is a renowned designer who began his career in 1984 after graduating from Bunka Fashion College. He initially worked with Comme des Garçons and designed for the Comme des Garçons Tricot label in 1987. In 1992, he launched his own namesake collection under the Comme des Garçons umbrella, debuting at Tokyo Fashion Week and later showcasing it at Paris Fashion Week in 1993.

Known for his avant-garde approach to design, Junya Watanabe quickly established himself as a creative force in the fashion world. His innovative work has earned him multiple accolades, including the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix in 1993 and 1999. In 2001, the designer introduced Junya Watanabe MAN, his menswear collection, at Paris Fashion Week, solidifying his global presence in fashion. His work blends technical innovation with artistic expression, marking him as a key figure in contemporary fashion design.
