The Office MIA Art Gallery Presents Solo Exhibition by Jeremy Shockley

During Miami Art Week 2024, The Office MIA Art Gallery is excited to host a solo exhibition by artist Jeremy Shockley. Known for his unique journey and captivating approach to storytelling, Shockley’s works combine elements of magical realism with everyday life, making them both accessible and intriguing. His medium of choice, oil on linen, serves as a dynamic canvas that brings his imaginative narratives to life.

Shockley, originally from Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina, first studied psychology and fine arts at Winthrop University. Although he initially envisioned a career in psychology, his path took a creative turn when he began working at Tom Sachs’s studio in New York City. This experience in a high-energy contemporary art environment encouraged him to fully embrace his artistic vision. After a period away from the art scene to work in trades such as carpentry and masonry, Shockley returned to painting with a renewed passion. Now based in Koreatown, Los Angeles, he balances his work in a gallery with his artistic practice, continuing to refine his technique and explore new themes.

The pieces on display in this exhibition reflect his fascination with magical realist literature, blending the ordinary with the fantastical. Shockley’s paintings depict scenes that invite viewers to reinterpret the familiar, using action and iconography to create layers of meaning. Each piece offers a glimpse into a world where the mundane meets the mystical, encouraging viewers to bring their interpretations to his vibrant compositions.
