Returning for its third year, Overtown EatUp! continues to celebrate the rich culinary heritage and cultural pride of Miami’s historic Overtown community. SOBEWFF® is excited to once again highlight the vibrant diversity of this iconic neighborhood with an event curated and hosted by Marcus Samuelsson, the James Beard Award-winning chef, TV personality, and cookbook author. Samuelsson, also a 2020 SOBEWFF® Tribute Dinner honoree, brings his passion for local cuisine and culture to this lively walk-around tasting.

Taking place at the Ninth Street Pedestrian Mall, the event will showcase the talents of Overtown’s top chefs, offering a menu that honors the neighborhood’s unique culinary roots. Guests can indulge in a flavorful array of dishes that celebrate the area’s Black history, paired with fine wines and cocktails from the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits portfolio.

The jazzy afternoon will be a celebration of both past and present, evoking the lively atmosphere of Overtown’s golden days when legends like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke, and Aretha Franklin frequented the area after performing at the Historic Lyric Theater. This event, steeped in both reverence and revelry, is a tribute to Overtown’s profound impact on Miami’s cultural fabric.

Proceeds from Overtown EatUp! will benefit FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, with scholarship funds specifically designated for students from the Overtown community, continuing the legacy of supporting future culinary and hospitality leaders.
