TAN, established in 2015, is a Japanese knitwear brand that embodies “wisdom, ingenuity, and a touch of the dramatic.” The name “TAN” is inspired by the Latin word “tangere,” meaning “to touch,” and the mathematical term “tangent,” symbolizing infinite possibilities. This reflects the brand’s dedication to exploring the limitless potential of knit products. By focusing on “from yarn to clothing,” TAN employs meticulous techniques to craft innovative knit structures and designs.

The brand’s philosophy emphasizes that even a single thread or gauge can transform the appearance of knitwear, allowing for delicate yet bold expressions. Designer Aki Murakami, after graduating from a fashion school, gained experience at a knitwear manufacturer before launching TAN in the fall/winter 2015 season.
